Samir Djoghal

Samir Djoghal, rapper, was born in Marseille, France in 1981. His parents are Algerians from the city of Khenchela. He grew up in the banlieues of his hometown. In a marginalized area marked by social inequalities, Djoghal found the Soul Musical School association, which changed his life. It was there where he encountered rap and breakdance at hip-hop related events. Influenced by French artists like IAM, Fonky Family, NTM, and notably Akhenaton, Djoghal decided to start his musical experience. After a brief stay with the band 45 Niggaz, he began his solo career in 2004. L'Algérino, the name Djoghal adopts, incorporates elements such as raï sounds, the Kabyle language, and the chaoui dance into the song Bawa, in which cultural references to family roots are most notably present.
