Yara Monteiro

Yara Monteiro, writer and visual artist, was born in province of Huambo, Angola in 1979. She has family roots in the Central Plateau of Angola and in the North of Portugal. At the age of 2, she moved to Portugal with her mother and maternal family, growing up in Margem Sul. She has a degree in Human Resources and has worked in the area for 15 years. She took a scriptwriting course at ACT - Escola de Autores (Lisbon) and a Contemporary Art course at Sotheby's (London). She has lived in Luanda, London, Copenhagen, Rio de Janeiro and Athens and currently lives in Alentejo. In 2018, she published her first novel, Essa Dama Bate Bué, an immersion in the historical and family networks that wrap around Angola and Portugal seen from the perspectives of future generations.
