Name:
Laurent Demoulin
Biographical note:
Laurent Demoulin, writer and professor, was born in Lieja, Belgium in 1966. He is a literature professor at the University of Liège, director of the Center d'Études et Fonds Georges Simenon, and director of the Textyles magazine, dedicated to Belgian literatures of French expression. Demoulin wrote more than ten books, between literary criticism and creation, among which Robinson (2016) stood out by receiving the Prix Victor Roussel in 2017. In Ulysse Lumumba (2014), Demoulin rewrites the history of the decolonization of Congo, using the Homeric myth and adapting it to Patrice Lumumba, the hero of Congolese independence. In this novel, Demoulin, who has no direct connection to Belgian colonial history, makes a cultural 'mea culpa' for the horrors linked to the colonization of Congo.
